Scrambled Eggs & Toast...

I visited the Reading Terminal Market four times during my trip to Philadelphia, and every time I walked through the door, I fell in love all over again. Housed in the former Reading Railroad Terminal (yes the one from Monopoly), the Market boasts the expected - produce, flowers, and meats - and the unexpected -  delicious Pennsylvania Dutch diners, coffee and bakery counters, rows of spices, candies galore. My favorite spot was The Dutch Eating Place. Their food was amazingly simple and without a doubt, the best home cooking I've had away from home. Three of my four mornings in Philly included scrambled eggs, wheat toast with real butter, and steaming coffee. Finally, during an afternoon visit, I was able to order the homemade mashed potatoes. They came covered in a melting mass of butter that resembled hot lava running down the sides of a volcano. No, they were NOT better than my Grandmother's, but they were delicious! In the last photo, I wonder if the young girl in the photo is also the one in the background. Probably not, but that would be cool.
