White Wedding Day

Last weekend, Jer and I attended my friend Kelly's wedding in Lake Lure, NC.
It was a lovely ceremony and I congratulate Kelly and Johnny Hill on their new journey!
Jer and I stayed at the historic 1927 Lake Lure Inn. The hotel was filled with antiques and vintage art...mostly old portraits that had those eyes that seem to follow you everywhere! The Inn definitely has its fair share of ghost stories, but we didn't encounter any. It's definitely a beautiful must-see historic Inn.

The wedding ceremony was held a few miles down the road at Rumbling Bald Resort. It was the perfect scenery for a wedding. Beautiful!

Kelly and Johnny Hill

The beautiful bride and me. Sadly, I never got a picture of Jer and I. The photographer, Krista Faulkner snapped one so I'll snag that once they're up on her website. Krista also photographed my wedding...she does an awesome job!

On a side note, I got to wear my new Anthropologie dress to the wedding. It was very comfortable and it has pockets (which I love)! You can't see them, they're perfectly hidden.

I paired the dress with these strappy silver heels in honor of my favorite movie, Dirty Dancing, which filmed scenes right there in Lake Lure! It was a wonderful weekend trip and I'm so glad Jer and I got to share in Kelly and Johnny's special day.

Popcorn Feet

 Murphy's Paw

I've been considering a subscription to Mental Floss, a magazine with random knowledge and quirky articles. Yesterday, I found an article that has absolutely convinced me this is the magazine for me. Call me crazy, but I've always thought Murphy's paws smell quite nice. Now, until this point I have only confessed this weirdness to my husband. But THIS article confirmed that I am not insane! Read on, and I bet you'll find yourself sniffing your pooches paws later!

Creative Space

I've decided that my creative space will never be completely finished - so I decided to just go ahead and post some pics of my progress up to this point. I've tried to use a lot of color and add some details that mean a lot to me. All my traveling this summer delayed the process, but I got back to it, and here are the results so far!

 Before #2

The inspiration I needed...this Japanese pinball machine got me moving with this project. It was a gift from my grandparents. I've adored this pinball machine since I was a child. The desk chair used to belong to my great-grandmother. My grandmother had it recovered and gave it to me as a high school graduation gift. The top of the chair spins all the way around, and is great fun for making yourself totally dizzy and giggly.

I'm trying to keep the desktop clean, so I bought a lot of different storage boxes at IKEA. I'm hoping to add some sort of color or design to the white boxes eventually. The orange strip is magnetic, the bulletin board was recycled and spray painted silver, and the silver strip is supposed to be a magnetic holder for knives, but I added storage containers that house paper clips, small spools of thread, and buttons. The desk and shelf are also IKEA buys.
These lamps also belonged to my great grandmother. I've always loved the dangling "crystals" and the interesting light and shadow designs they cast when turned on.

These bedclothes are from IKEA and I am so inspired and in love with the colors.

I got this lamp shade from IKEA and spray painted the base silver.

Family heirlooms created by my great grandmother (top), mother (middle), and great great grandmother (bottom)

Some favorite books...

These jars belonged to my great great grandmother (front and center; old peanut butter jar) and my great grandmother (back jars)

I installed these myself! I love to drill!

Got some special compartments for my many monthly magazines.

No room is complete without a little greenery!

Oh, Anthropologie, you've done it again!
I'm wishing these pieces were in my closet right now!
Sure, this Violet Gloaming Dress looks a bit Springy, but it's gorgeous!

This Perthshire Dress has my Scottish genes screaming YES PLEASE!

Excuse me? Did someone say SWEATERCOAT? Oh how I wish I were wrapped up in this, beside a roaring fireplace, with my latest Stephanie Plum novel. Happy Friday!

My Dream Come True!

On my way into work this morning I heard a story on NPR that made me want to visit France even more! They have created water fountains that have regular and...SPARKLING WATER! Apparently the French consume an obscene amount of bottled water, so these fountains are supposed to encourage them to cut back. I love love love La Croix canned sparkling water (lime is the best) and average a 12-pack per week. I want a sparkling water fountain of my own!

Wishin' and Hopin'

I've been totally slacking with my photography and the blog lately, but I'll get back to it. In the meantime I've had some wonderfully relaxing days at home with my family. I have a serious case of the Mondays, so I thought I'd post some pics of where I'd rather be (with the pup and the husband of course!) ...

Words & Tunes

I plan to spend this weekend at home with my wonderful husband and crazy pup. I've decided to take on reading The Brothers Karamazov, finished in 1880 by Russian author, Fyodor Dostoyevsky. I've been reading reviews about this book and it's heralded as an amazing piece of work by people like Freud, Einstein, and even Pope Benedict XVI. With over 1000 pages, I'm thinking this one will keep me busy for QUITE a while.

Next, I want to read Freedom by Johnathan Franzen. I heard his interview on NPR the other day discussing the book and Oprah just announced that it's the final pick for her Book Club.

On another note, this week I have been thoroughly enjoying the music of Joao Gilbrato, a Brazilian musician who began the Bossa Nova movement in the late 1950s. His music has a nice, light, jazzy sound that makes me feel like I should be sipping iced tea or wine spritzers on a faraway beach. I highly recommend creating a Pandora station dedicated to Joao Gilbrato. Hope you have a WONDERFUL weekend!

Ruler of the Pond

I love these shots of the Heron who rules the pond by our house; he or she looks so peaceful. Sometimes this Heron will sit in one spot, barely moving for hours at a time, seemingly meditating. This magnificent bird usually visits the pond at least once a day, scooping teeny fish up for snacks, and wading through the water with a prehistoric gait. I really enjoy our "waterfront property!"

Eat, Pray, Love

Yes, I realize that once again I just finished a bestseller from about 2 years ago, but I have to give my praise to Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat, Pray, Love. After watching the movie last weekend, I conclude that the book is WAY better! This book posed some really deep, heavy, and existential questions at times, and reminded me of one of my FAVORITE college classes, Hindu mysticism. The main point I got from this (true) story is that sometimes we need to slow down and quiet the mind...which, if you knew my mind you'd know this is no easy feat, haha. If you haven't read this book yet, I highly recommend!

Best Snack Food in the UNIVERSE!

I love Triscuits! Anything you put on a Triscuit tastes better, like it was plucked from the Garden of Eden. OK, maybe not that serious, but for real, I LOVE TRISCUITS! Top them with peanut butter and jelly, or,  better yet, pop some triscuits topped with shredded parmesan in the microwave for about ten seconds then drizzle with salsa. What do you like on YOUR Triscuits?

Sand n Surf

This weekend I'm off to the Isle of Palms, SC for a bachelorette party! These are some shots of my two favorite guys and I on our honeymoon last year in Oak Island, NC.
