Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

What a wonderful extended weekend! My friend Tim and I had a wonderful time, ate some delicious sushi, and stayed up listening to music WAY too late. I worked really hard on getting my new creative area organized (mini IKEA shopping spree, yay! Pics to come later), went kayaking with my husband, had a cookout with some friends, and saw a really cool snapping turtle on the sidewalk. All-in-all I can say, I LOVE LONG WEEKENDS! What did you do?

Craft Room Obsession

It's official, I'm obsessed with craft rooms and art spaces! These are all so inspiring! I want them all! Which is your favorite?

Guess Who's Coming for Dinner?

One of my best friends, Tim, is stopping for the night on his way down the road. I'm so excited! I met Tim in college and we became the best of friends. We always end up spending the evening laughing, and I mean the good laughs, the ones that hurt your side. This pic was taken around 2002 or 2003 (I think). I used Tim as my model for photography class, and this is after a session. Thanks for being a great friend Tim!

Strange Tales from a Valocrat (#1)

-->
Once, I put on cherry-flavored stockings, and went to the zoo. I met a penguin named Dorfus who had the best shrimp recipe in the world. To access the recipe, he made me win a game of shuffleboard, invent a new version of war, and write a book about petunia-flavored lipstick.

Color Scheming...

I've been putting together some plans for a small "art area" for myself. I created this color scheme based on a 1970s Mizuho Pachinko Japanese pinball machine my grandfather gave me. I've always adored it since I was small, and he and my grandmother didn't want it anymore so now it's mine! I'm even thinking about attempting to repair it. Anyways, I plan on it being a centerpiece in my new creative space! You should do an image search on vintage Pachinko machines, I love the colors and designs!

Artist Spotlight: Scott Hansen

I absolutely ADORE designer Scott Hansen's work. The use of color, the vintage style, the way you can just keep looking and finding new aspects of each piece. Now he is selling some prints from his blog, and you can check out his portfolio here. I must buy one!

Strange Toys...

Why, what in the WORLD is in that strange box?

Why, STRANGE TOYS of course!
[This is a mix of toys that belonged to my mother, my uncle brother, and myself. For some reason, I've held on to them throughout the years. I think they're awesome, and decided they might be due for a day out in the sun. The following pictures explain what happened...]

The Happy-Meal toys just stood around and gossiped about The Hills and The City.

At first, all the gals tried to hang out, but they kept arguing about who had the smallest feet.

These ladies hung out in the garden, talking about their hair, and the latest collection at Anthropologie.

Karen used the afternoon to recruit new members to the Roller Derby team. She met Barbara, a retired snake, who was ecstatic about slithering around the rink.

Mr. T and Buzz Aldrin decided to spend the afternoon at the Bird's Nest, a local bar that serves Mimosas and Cosmos only. These two were an unlikely match up, but ended up becoming the best of friends. They plan to meet regularly.

The Amazing Life of Murphy Dog...

It was a wonderful weekend with Murph dog! He got a new toy, and official Beanie Baby dog toy - the platypuss! Sunday we took him to the famous Penguin Drive-In in Plaza Midwood, and had lunch in Veteran's Park, where we found a really cool old tree! Not to mention, it was a fantastically perfect day for a Jeep ride!

Project Time!

Amazing Craft Space featured here

I'm determined to make myself a little art area in our spare bedroom. I really want to get back into painting, crafts, etc., but need enough space to store things and leave projects out if needed. I stumbled across this area online and almost cried with jealousy! Why can't I have a fairy godmother and a troop of magical mice to help me create this room in 5 minutes? When I get my room together, I'll post pics. Do you have any tips for creating a SMALL art area?

Fiesta!

"Make your own" grilled pizzas

Cupcakes from Tizzerts

Lemon Raspberry, Chocolate w/ Chocolate Cream, Coconut Cream,
Boston Creme, Mocha Espresso, and Red Velvet
(in no particular order)

The Birthday Girl

This weekend I got to attend my lovely mother's birthday! I LOVE family parties. We grilled pizzas and shrimp, and devoured some delicious cupcakes that I brought from a lovely bakery named Tizzerts. My mom is amazing, and I was so glad I could spend this day with her! Check out my mom's blog, "A Slice of Cake."

Scratch and Sniff...

One of my best friends came to visit this weekend, and brought me some beautiful roses from her parents' garden. These are the fluffiest and softest roses I have ever seen! Not to mention their fragrance is absolutely intoxicating! I would LOVE to have some bushes of these someday.

STOP! Murphy Time...

Murphy in a bone trance

Although it is impossible for Murphy to take a bad photo, I thought these were particularly cute! The first two are Murphy in a "bone trance," and the last two were taken at my mom's birthday party. Murphy rules!

I'm Back!

Sorry it's been SO LONG since I last posted. Look for some updates this afternoon!

And Your Host....

Well I decided that I might not ever BE the host of SNL, but I wanted to see what it felt like to have cool SNL-style pics. So I photoshopped myself into some! I had a TON of fun doing this.
In order from the top, the photos are (1) my wedding day, (2) visit to Asheville, (3) my honeymoon, and (4) a glamour shot when I was 12 maybe?

Saturday Night Dreaming!

After watching (and re-watching) the Betty White SNL episode, I'm reminded of why I've always loved that show so much. Back in high school, my dream was to someday grow up and either write for SNL or be an actress in skits (or both, like Tina Fey!). Somehow, in the midst of adulthood, I realized that dream was probably just that, a dream. I just can't imagine how fun it would be to work there, coming up with random silly skits, creative banter back and forth with some of the funniest people around, and giggly moments where you just can't hold it in anymore. Thank you, Betty White, for one of the funniest, most heartwarming SNL episodes I've ever seen!

Mother's Day!

Lovely Flowers

My Favorite Ladies!

What a wonderful Mother's Day! My mom, grandmother, and aunt came to visit. We had brunch at the Pewter Rose Bistro (delicious) then visited the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. It was a lovely afternoon spent with the most special women in my life! Thank you for everything you do for me!
