Time Flies...

Time sure does fly when you're having fun. I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving break. Jer and I were lucky enough to get two celebrations, one with each family! I can't believe it's almost December, I wish time would slow down a bit. Here are some pics from the break.

My in-laws' new Visla, Sam, he is such a sweetie!

Sam and Murph became instant buddies.

Reminders that Christmas is just around the corner!

Jer got some love from T-bone.

Delicious dinner at my Grandparent's house.

"Hey, Hey, What is Going On Here?"

This is my favorite quote from Richard Belding, Principal of Bayside High (1989-1933). These photos will tell you a little bit about what has been going on HERE!

I celebrated with my classmates in Event Planning Certification Class by having a "potluck" dinner during our final presentations. This delicious red velvet and cream cheese icing cupcake was made by Alan, of Two Guys N A Kitchen.

A new bar opened in Birkdale called the Kilted Buffalo. The owner is a Marshall University alumni and named the bar after the Thundering Herd. Notice the Marshall helmet on the fridge (left)?

The bar also has Shuffleboard...and a salon! It doubles as a men's grooming parlor.

Met up with some friends for dinner and DOMINATED at Mellow Mushroom Trivia Night! We ended up winning free beer, gift certificates, and other goodies!

I Love Cyclops

I love cyclops. I think they're totally adorable. According to Wikipedia, "In Greek mythology and later Roman mythology, a cyclops was a member of a primordial race of giants, each with a single eye in the middle of its forehead." Here is a collection of cyclops that are sure to brighten your day.

What Rhymes with Orange?

Well I'm pretty sure nothing rhymes with orange, but I do know that this beautiful tree outside my office is a beautiful shade of Autumn Orange. Spring and Fall are definitely my favorite seasons. Not only because of the perfect temperatures, but because of the beautiful colors! I can't believe Thanksgiving is a week away! Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. And for the record, I think it's RIDICULOUS that some stores are opening on Thanksgiving...BOOOO!

Weekend Flashbacks

I had such a wonderful weekend! My mom came in for a visit, which is always fun. We shopped until we dropped, ate delicious food, and laughed a lot! I love my mama!

We visited the lovely Myers Park neighborhood for some Mellow Mushroom. I love the trees along Queens Road, they are massive and ancient!

We checked out the Clean Catch Fish Market, a new store beside Mellow Mushroom. Artic Char is farmed in West Virginia!

T-Bone sought sanctuary under the stool to escape Murphy's nibbling.

I got these awesome temporary tattoo fingerstaches to share at my next party.

Make fun of me all you want, but I'm so excited about this workbook. It prompts you to do creative doodles and illustration, and design different types of fashion and accessories.

For example, here it asks you to draw a pattern on the dress.
Hope everyone has a great week!

Web Finds

These are some sweet sites I found while surfing the web this week. Happy Friday!

This beautiful underwater art gallery by artist, Jason de Caires Taylor is amazing! The statues become artificial reefs and homes for sea creatures. Check out his gallery, the pictures are captivating and a little haunting at times.

This poster , created by artist Anthony Burrill, is a screen print using actual oil from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Happiness Brussels, the company who organized the project, is donating all proceeds to the recovery of the Louisiana coastline.

This adorable couple, Albert and Gillian Maysles, are featured on The Selby.
The piece shows pictures of their apartment in Harlem. So many treasures and beautiful colors!

This "Pick Punch" makes guitar pics out of old plastic cards! Awesome!

For the Love of Jars: #3

A common issue I run into when saving old jars is removing stickers and odors. After all, you don't want to put a cinnamon candle in a jar that smells like tomato sauce! I found this article on the Re-Nest website with tips and tricks for removing stickers and smells from old jars. The author suggests using peanut butter or oil to remove adhesives that are often left on the jar, and allowing them to sit in the sun to remove smells. Here's to sparkling clean jars!

From Farm to Fork

With all the farmers in this area, it's really easy to buy local produce and meats. This weekend I visited the Davidson Farmers Market. I'm sad to say it was my first time visiting this market, but happy that it is the first of many! The small town of Davidson is so charming and reminds me of a quaint West Virginia town. It was a really fun Saturday morning!

This lovely produce is from Barbee Farms, a local farm filled with delicious fruits, veggies, and other treats like honey and REAL popcorn! I bought all my produce at this stand.

This bakery had some beautiful loaves of bread. I also bought a mini broccoli, red pepper, and cheese quiche here for breakfast. It was hands down the best quiche I've ever had! Fluffy center and a flaky crust...mmmmm.

They also had some insanely tempting pastries! Unfortunately, I forgot to get this bakery's name. Next time!

Next stop, the Pasta Wench. Besides the awesome name, this company had some yummy ravioli blends for sale. I've already tried the Portabello-Asiago-Vidalia and it was delicious.

Before heading home, I stopped by the flower booth and treated myself to this gorgeous bouquet...for only $10!

A rundown of my goodies for the day: a head of butter lettuce, quiche, turnips, green onions, a melt-in-your mouth heirloom tomato (post-summer, yay!), bok choy, three packages of ravioli, and some lovely flowers. Score!

Murphy LOVED the flowers! He's a little botanist and always enjoys a good whiff of plant life.

Up Up and Away

I learned an important lesson during a trip home a couple weeks ago. Since I was driving I didn't think I'd need my camera, so I put it in the trunk. About 50 miles down the road I spotted some beautiful hot air balloons floating through the sky. "Oh no!" I cried. My sweet husband snapped these few on my iPhone. It turns out we were passing the Carolina BalloonFest, an annual weekend-long event filled with these beautiful giant balloons. You never know when you might need a camera! I don't think I would be brave enough to ride in a hot air balloon, but I am definitely going to this event next year. Happy Weekend everyone!

For the Love of Jars: #2

MidwestFinds, a seller on Etsy is just as crazy about jars as I am! I love these awesome jar additions, and am planning on purchasing a jar hanging kit. Thanks Christine, for the heads up on this wonderful jar find!

Self-Served Sweetness

My family and I used to go to TCBY all the time when I was a kid. When I was in college, I fell in LOVE with their White Chocolate Mousse. When I moved, I was sad to find out there were no TCBYs in my area...until now! A TCBY just opened really close to my place! I headed over this weekend and treated myself to some White Chocolate Mousse. It was awesome.

I was surprised to see that it was a self-serve TCBY! They charge you per ounce.

They also have a self-serve toppings bar filled with every imaginable treat! I can't wait to go back!
