What's a recipeat you ask? Why it's a darn good recipe that's worth repeating! I recently discovered lentils and am head over heels. Smitten Kitchen featured this stewed lentils and tomatoes recipe (originally from Barefoot Contessa) and I couldn't wait to try it!

I added kale and really could add any veggies you'd like! It was a warm, delicious, curry-spiced pot of heaven, and thankfully there was enough for some yummy leftovers! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Home Sweet Home!

For Veteran's Day weekend I went home to West Virginia. Some friends and I took a hike on the Long Point Trail in Fayetteville to see the beautiful New River Gorge Bridge. It's such a peaceful and lovely place. The trail gives hikers an incredible view of the bridge!

Who's Got the Beet?

I devoured these beautiful and delicious beets, greens, and a veggie quiche from the farmer's market. Roasting the beets brings out such a sweet lovely flavor.

Leaves They are a Changin'

The gorgeous colors of autumn have finally made it to Charlotte. Two weeks ago I was stunned at the beautiful colors in the West Virginia mountains and now they've arrived in my backyard! I had to run out and get some shots of the amazing colors. So inspiring! Murphy really wanted to help, but the thousands of acorns on the ground hurt his sensitive paws.

White Wedding Day!

Jessica's wedding took place on a gorgeous Ocracoke Island beach, and her reception was a costume party in celebration of Halloween. It couldn't have been more beautiful...or fun! Despite some cold weather, hearts were warm watching these two unite...Congrats Jess and Jeffrey!

The restaurant where the rehearsal dinner was held had the coolest lighting!

Jess wore these boots with her wedding dress! So cute!

Jess walked down the aisle to Death Cab for Cutie's, I Will Follow You into the Dark. This song is so beautiful, but totally makes me teary-eyed when a wedding ISN'T happening! Needless to say, tears were flowing during this ceremony. It was all very personal and so sweet.

We all went home and put on our costumes for the reception.
My mom made this gorgeous cake!

The Mr. dressed up as Wilfred and I was Little Red Riding Hood. Everyone was jealous of his warm cozy costume! This was one of my favorite weddings ever!

Girls Only!

Jessica's bachelorette weekend was so fun! Like I said in my last post, we rented a couple cabins in WV during Bridge Day. The leaves were beautiful and the weather couldn't have been better. The cabins were very dark inside so my pics aren't as clear as I'd like, but you can get the idea!

A few of us arrived early to prep the cabin and get it Halloween-ified!
Cassie and I made some mini cupcakes: Pumpkin Nutella Swirl (from Real Mom Kitchen) and Carrot Cake with Maple Cream Cheese Frosting (from Smitten Kitchen). They were awesome!
Party prep complete! Now we just had wait for the guests!
We partied the night away and woke up Bride Day morning to a breakfast of champions...mimosas!

Then we hiked to the bridge. I'd say we walked about 4 miles that day!

Nothing like jumping of an 800+ foot bridge backwards!

I made these flyers (sign on top) to hang random places throughout the weekend. It's a photo of Jess from high school that she absolutely hates, with the text: "Don't Be Mad! You're Getting Married in Two Weeks! Congratulations Jessica!" We put them on porta potties, in restaurants, in bars, you name it! Jess was a great sport about it!

All smiles!

A wonderful weekend was had by all! Thanks to my wonderful friends!

Party Preppin'

I can't believe it's been over a week since my last post! I have a good best friend got married! The past few weeks have been a fast-paced mix of bachelorette partying, gathering with friends, and traveling to the OBX for a Halloween wedding. I've been drowning in all the photos I've taken and was really unsure about where to start. So, I decided to take Julie Andrews' advice and "start at the very beginning." Here are some shots of bachelorette party prep!

The bachelorette party was in a rustic cabin in the WV mountains during Bridge Day. We decided to have a Halloween theme and go all out with decor! The weekend before the party I got my craft on and made some goodies to take to the party. This was my "before" pile!

I used this "lacing technique" from A Beautiful Mess on several of my projects. This was a photo booth kit that I filled with fun things to pose with: mustaches and beards on sticks, silly glasses, bandanas, masks, etc. Somehow I forgot to take a photo of the inside, but you can see the props in action:

I also used the lacing technique on this card. All the gals signed special congratulations messages at the party and we gave it to the bride-to-be on the morning of her wedding.

What's a Halloween party without pumpkins? These last two were my faves. I used scotch tape and spray paint to make the silver one, lace for the black pattern, and paint and star shaped push pins for the last pumpkin in the top pic. The bride-to-be saved all the painted pumpkins we brought and used them at the wedding!

I even decorated this tube of glow necklaces. Trader Joe's gave me the stickers and they were so cute I just HAD to use them somewhere! Next up, a few pics from Bridge Day and the Halloween wedding extravaganza!
