I'll be the first to admit...I tend to "discover" trends rather late sometimes (e.g., I just read the Hunger Games trilogy last month). My latest addiction is Mad Men, and I'm sure many of you have been in this boat for years. A couple weeks ago I started with season 1 episode 1 while I was prepping a rather large bulk mailing at work. I finished the last episode of season 4 last night. Yep, all 52 episodes in 2 weeks and 4 days. Don't worry, I didn't watch them at work!

Mad Men has become my second favorite show, The Sopranos being the first. Matthew Weiner, the director of Mad Men, even wrote several Sopranos episodes. Mad Men is a stunning time piece about 1960s life in (and out) of a popular ad agency on Madison Avenue, NYC. The fashion is amazing, the characters are deep and always revealing new sides, and the story is fantastic. I won't give away anything, but advise you to get Netflix immediately. All 4 seasons are on instant streaming! Now I have to wait until sometime in 2012 to see season 5!

Mushroom Village

A few weeks ago, this mushroom village was in my neighbor's yard. They looked so cool and formed an almost perfect arc. The next day the landscapers destroyed it! Poor Smurfs...

Decor Amore

I love this spooky tealight jack-o-lantern! I found him in my random holiday decor box.

While I was in Phoenix I stopped by an Urban Outfitters downtown. Because it's fairly new and not very busy yet, they had EVERYTHING in stock! I was so happy to finally get this "George the Terrier" bank I've had my eye on for while. Murphy barked at him!

Hangin in the Desert

This week, I made a quick trip out to Phoenix to scope it out for a potential meeting spot. I only had one day, but I saw a lot! It was hot, almost 100 degrees, but not humid. The city is young and developing and I'm excited to go back and get to know it better!

I stayed at the beautiful Downtown Sheraton. This hotel is only 3 years old and is absolutely gorgeous! Their restaurant, The District, uses organic foods from a local farm. It was really delicious!

The decor is very minimalistic, which I loved. Some hotels can be so tacky and in-your-face with bright colors and patterns. The design here was so relaxing.

I had one heck of a view! Phoenix is so pretty.

I thought their pool had a really cool design.

Oakville Grocery Company is just a few blocks away. It had lots of great options for the grab-and-go business person downtown.

They also had an adorable wine bar with a happy hour! I stopped by and had a glass of prosecco and some local chocolates by Julia Baker... the ganache on the left was my favorite!

Across the street from the hotel there was a really zen park with some beautiful palms.

And of course I had to try some Southwest / Mexican food! Urbanspoon directed me to a little downtown taco place called Vitamin T Tacos. I got the veggie taco: roasted potatoes and mushrooms, black beans, Oaxaca cheese and toasted pumpkin seeds topped with chili de arbol sauce and salsa verde, served on a corn tortilla. I have to say, this is possibly THE BEST taco I've had. On the side I had their homemade tomatillo and roasted tomato salsas. I'll be honest...I got a second one to go! Phoenix is great! Can't wait to go back!

Family Time

Last weekend I got to visit my family! It was a wonderful and very cold trip...rainy and in the low 40s! That didn't stop us from having a great weekend...

Friday evening was a feast! Mom made a delicious eggplant and shittake mushroom lasagna with homemade sauce. Mammol made the beautiful salad to accompany. It was a wonderful home cooked meal!

Saturday morning we got up early and headed to Fayetteville for breakfast at the Vandalian. Mom and Mammol have been raving about it and I couldn't wait to try it out!

I had the "Veni Vedi Veggie," a scramble of eggs, black beans, and veggies. My grandpa had some beautiful pancakes topped with candied pecan and bacon crumbles and served with honey butter! I forgot to take a picture but he said it was amazing! I thought the design on the tables was really pretty. I love going home!

Nature Lately

So far, this Fall has felt like a mini spring. Lots of rain and humidity, pretty flowers and lush greens. These are some scenes that have caught my eye.

These first shots were taken right after a rainstorm and are not photoshopped at all. The sky was a crazy color and I think the photos turned out just lovely.

This yellow mum plant was a dead pile of sticks coming out of the ground when we moved in. I trimmed it back, and this Spring it started to grow some green. Now it's this beautiful gigantic mass of yellow mum! I love it!

I recently met up with a friend at Freedom Park. It's so pretty and old, filled with trees that have probably been there since the beginning of this city!
