Thoughts On...Receipts

I think paper receipts are so wasteful! I truly don't understand why I need a receipt for my $2 iced tea from Dunkin' Donuts. Am I going to bring it back? That said, I do get the importance of receipts. It proves that you paid for something in case there is a problem. I think all companies, persons, etc. who distribute receipts should enter the modern day and start doing it electronically. I'm very appreciative of companies like Starbucks, Anthropolgie, and Gap who ask if you'd like a receipt (Anthro and Gap will email it). I'm sure there are others adopting this practice, although some who ask if you want the receipt are just trashing it themselves.

One day, while I was huffing and puffing to myself about the absurdity of paper receipts, an idea hit me. What if you had a scan card like the ones on your keychain for grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. that could electronically store all your receipts? So I jumped on Google and did some searching. What do you know, the idea is already taken. My Receipt Card is a patent-pending product that I think is an amazing idea! Every time you'd make a purchase, the merchant would scan your Receipt Card which would store it electronically for your future needs.

Not only does it perform this miraculous task, but according to the website it: maintains purchase expenditure reports and exports them to software of your choice; provides charts and graphs displaying your purchases; helps compare costs at various stores; alerts you about coupons and sales you may be interested in based on your history of purchases; and electronically files and maintains rebates, product registration, and warranties.

I promise I'm not being paid to endorse this product or anything like that, I just think it's a fabulous idea! Think of all the paper waste that could be eliminated! Also, if you're curious about how much you're spending monthly on clothes, food, etc., this little card can tell you. Although it's not an actual product yet, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be soon! What do you think? Useful or not?

Weekend Shots...

Wow, has another wonderful weekend already passed by?

Got to see my first Charlotte Checkers game! Fun!

I got to take some photos of new adoptees at Catering to Cats and Dogs. I think the top photo looks like a ninja cat, and the gray cat has some STUNNING eyes!

I also got to spend some time with the new labradoodle puppies! They are the cutest pups I've seen in a while. Be sure to check out Fuzzy Face Photography tomorrow for some more shots of these precious furry babies. They'll be up for adoption in early March.

Eye Catchers

Some awesome things that have caught my eye lately...

Photo via Bluebird Vintage via photographer Brooke Schwab
One of my favorite bloggers from Bluebird Vintage got married recently and the photos are absolutely breathtaking. It's the most perfect wedding I've ever seen! There is a Part I and a Part II, be sure to check out both!

Photo via Brooklyn to West
I love, love, LOVE the amazing craft-woman-ship of Ariele Alasko, a Brooklyn-based artist who uses reclaimed and recycled woods in her projects. I was introduced to her work through the awesome project, The Makers. You must see her amazing wall of dried eucalyptus leaves!

I saw these flower nails on Design Sponge and think they are so cute! They're made in Japan and sold through a German company, CollageShop. I'm sensing a soon-to-be trend!

Weekend Shots

Last weekend I headed home for a family visit. Sadly, my trip had to be cut short b/c of the anticipated snow storm Sunday...the one that ended up not even starting until late afternoon (grr)! I still had a wonderful time and got a few photos of the fun! Have you checked out my latest dog photo adventures on Fuzzy Face Photography?

I love this big tree in my aunt's backyard!

Tea Time

One of my favorite things to drink is unsweetened iced tea. No sugar, no fake sweetener, straight up au natural. I have a bad habit of running through Dunkin Donuts for a large iced tea during workweek afternoons. It's so wasteful! BUT making my own iced tea at home requires boiling water, steeping the tea, and then waiting for it to cool enough to handle ice...too much work for a lunchtime tea fix. My main obstacle from making my own iced tea has been the container. I don't want a plastic container, I prefer glass. Surprisingly, it's very hard to find a glass pitcher with a lid! A couple weeks ago I stumbled upon Local Amish Farms, a company who sells glass milk jugs! With lids! A half gallon (64 oz) jar is only $7.50. So of course, I ordered one and it's perfect! I vow to no longer waste money on the wasteful plastic cups at Dunkin Donuts. Check out my new tea jug! I can't wait to have some ice cold tea from my tea jug this summer!

Getting Biblical...

An event I participated in last weekend was very close to Luna's Living Kitchen, so I decided to stop by for breakfast. Luna's Biblical Breakfast is my favorite choice on the menu! Soooo delicious! It consists of three slices of local, artisan bread, each are topped with a different butter: peanut, almond, or coconut, and all slices have fig preserves and banana slices. On the side I had two large slices of pineapple, some kiwi, and raspberries. I wish I could have this breakfast every morning!

Cuppie Cakes and New Ventures

The hubs and I went out for a pre-dinner cupcake treat last night. He had a mocha cupcake with a fancy mocha latte (whoa, how mocha-ee), and I had the signature chocolate cupcake with an iced chai soy latte. There is truly nothing better than dessert before dinner!

On another note, I've decided to start a little side photography! Fuzzy Face Photography is my new creation and my hope is that through photography I can help dog lovers celebrate the special relationship we share with our canine counterparts! Check out the new site!

New Mother Nature Takin' Over

I've been hearing that lots of people are having an unseasonably warm winter this year. North Carolina is no's been almost spring-like! The other day, after a fresh rain, I grabbed the camera and took some shots around the neighborhood. It really felt - and looked - like Spring! Here's hoping that an unseasonably warm winter leads to an unseasonably cool summer!

On the Road Again

I've been in Phoenix for work this week so I haven't had much time to take pics or post. The weather is beautiful! Sunny and around 70 degrees every day. I've been eating some really awesome food good I've actually forgotten to take pics of it before I start grubbing. Oops!

Last night we went to an adorable pizza place called Cibo (chee-bo). It's in a renovated bungalow with a lovely patio out front. Our table was wedged between two giant drooping tree branches that were decorated with string lights and glowing grapes! The wood-fired pizza was soooo delicious. I think it's the best pizza I've had since Serious Pie in Seattle!

This was the only vegetarian, healthy, non-processed food I could find at the airport (sans the ranch dressing). Airports really need to work on being more vegetarian friendly. Salad bar...hello!?
