Check Out My Bundt

Wow what a week! I've been suffering some serious jet lag since I returned from Denver last Sunday, and am finally feeling more like myself and less like a zombie. This weekend is gonna be HOT! In fact, they're predicting 104 this afternoon, wow. This evening I'll be hosting my book club for a little wine's hoping the shade will be enough protection from the heat! In honor of our celebration I made bundt cupcakes inspired by this recent mouth-watering recipe on Smitten Kitchen. They are delicious. Instead of triple berries, I used some local peaches and blueberries. The icing is a lemon glaze and honestly, they're just as good without it. I'm so excited to visit the farmer's market tomorrow for some summer goodies to taste. Happy weekend everyone!

The Summer Wind...

In addition to father's day, last weekend marked my grandparents' 56th anniversary. I headed home to celebrate and had a lovely time. The weather was perfect, low 80s with a slight breeze, and the company was even better! We spent some time at a local vineyard for a wine fest, had a delicious anniversary cookout, and celebrated father's day with breakfast and gifts. Congrats Mammol and Grandpa!

The local animal shelter had some cuties up for adoption!

Fresh bread, strawberries, and peaches from the farmer's market tasted like summer!
Mom made some delicious mimosa jelly that tasted just like the real thing!
Murphy had a blast running in and out of the doggie door and playing in the yard.
Dinner was: Dr. Pepper steak, salmon, corn on the cob, tomatoes, swiss chard, roasted potatoes, and warmed bread. I really love family cookouts!
I caught this squirrel getting his breakfast at my grandparent's house. He seemed quite content! Happy weekend everyone!

Kittens and Pups

A couple weekends ago I had the pleasure of photographing some of the latest adoptees at Catering to Cats and Dogs. It's amazing what different subjects cats and dogs are. The dogs are interested in me, wonder what the heck I'm doing, and respond with a cute face when I make noises. Cats and kittens, on the other hand, could care less who I am, and rarely even acknowledge that I'm there. Sometimes squeaky toys help, but very rarely. That said, it's really fun to photograph these quirky kittens. They make some funny and heart-melting expressions.

Pumpkin got adopted the next weekend!

Not sure about this little cutie's name...I vote for Sylvester.

Tigger melted my heart. He has the sweetest personality and is one of the coolest looking dogs I've seen. He's just been adopted!

Summer Grubbin'

I'm officially in the busy season for work...conference time! Off to Denver next week for some Rocky Mountain air and (hopefully) no humidity.

Summer is officially on and it shows in the food! The farmer's market tomatoes have been absolutely delicious the past two weeks. Deep red, juicy, tangy, and brought to life with a little salt and pepper. A sprig or two of basil doesn't hurt either. It's amazing how a good summer tomato can brighten my day.

That's what a good tomato looks like inside!

Good friends, mushroom pizza, and a cold Stella

Strawberry and cream biscuits...I saw this recipe on Smitten Kitchen and thought about the super ripe, juicy strawberries at the farmer's market right now. These are the perfect way to use ripe berries before they melt. They did not disappoint with a drizzle of honey and a smear of jam.

And the Summer Grubbin' is just gonna keep getting better!

Recipeat: Crispy Tofu with Sweet Potato Fries

Time for another Recipeat! I discovered this recipe on Going Home to Roost, one of my new favorite blogs. She found the recipe on Oh She Glows: Crispy Breaded Tofu Strips with Sweet Potato Fries. Serious cravings ensued once I saw this recipe! It was so easy to make and really tasty. I dipped my crispy tofu strips in honey and ketchup (not at the same time) and felt like I was in an organic elementary school cafeteria. I paired them with some sauteed farmer's market swiss chard and a handful of sprouts. Delicious! Happy Friday everyone!

Farmer's Market Fun

How I adore farmer's market season! When I'm in town on a Saturday, which isn't often, I love to head up the road to the small-town farmer's market. It was booming this weekend!

I got quite the bundle: chard, beets, green beans, basil, tomatoes, corn, strawberries, a peach, and some absolutely scrumptious fresh-made whole grain bread.

Mashed strawberries and natural peanut butter made the farmer's market bread very happy...and me too!

Perhaps the most significant score of the weekend was discovering Graeter's Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip ice cream at the Healthy Home Market. Remember when I had my first taste of this Cincinnati-churned treat last year? I'd actually considered the outrageous $60 cost for delivering 6 pints. Trust me, this stuff is worth breaking the diet for!

I've dropped the ball on Man Men Mondays. Honestly, it got a bit boring. Either you watch the show or you don't right? BUT if you watch it, did you see last night? O-M-G. How can there only be one episode left!?

Summer Squeeze

Lately, my go-to snack has been none other than the juicy, sticky, sweet-yet-tart orange. It feels oh so summery and cutting it into half circles kinda makes me feel like a kid again. It's the little things right? What's your favorite summer snack?
